Some friends of mine are organizing an awesome conference in Fairfax, VA and you should go. Here are the details:
Do you like ruby? Do you like doing good? Do you like hanging out with other rubyists?
If you answered yes, come out to rubyforgood.com, a 3-day all inclusive conference in the DC area being held August 1st through August 3rd.
What will we be doing?
We are going to be lending our hacking
skills for "good" projects - places that need help but don't have the
resources to pay for people with our skill set. Some of the
organizations we're planning on helping include a local animal shelter,
an education project for at risk inner city youths, and a bee monitoring
application. We are still accepting project suggestions, so if you
volunteer for a local non-profit and see a need, please let us know.
How can you convince your work to let you come?
Aside from the
skills you will learn working on teams and pairing on your projects, we
have three workshops scheduled: 1) two members of the Rspec core team
(and confirmation pending on the third) will be in attendance to offer
an effective testing with Rspec workshop, 2) one of the committers to
the JsonAPI project will host a workshop on building effective and
robust APIs, and 3) an AngularJS expert will be giving a detailed and
thorough kickstart into using Angular.
Is it all work?
No! The evenings are going to be filled with fun,
games and socializing. We'll definitely have a game (or two) of Artemis
going, board games, computer games, and much general nerdery.
What does all inclusive mean?
It means you just need to bring yourself and any personal items you may
need. We'll supply the beds, blankets, bedding and all the food and
This sounds awesome, how do you sign up?
