I've noted that rubygems uses https to download gems by default.
https is slower than http; in my experience, http is about %10 faster.
The following commands will configure rubygems to download with http instead of https:
gem sources -a http://rubygems.org/
gem sources -r https://rubygems.org/
Adding an insecure source generates a warning though.
Is there any reason NOT to use http for downloading gems?
